Why dark mode matters and free choice too

choices dark mode minuto blog Duração da leitura: 4 minuty

Try out the dark mode that this website now offers and learn how it relates to Minuto, the alternative means of payment.

As of this week, dark mode is available on minuto.org. It was suggested by a contributor who loves dark mode and I was excited to help this idea become reality.

To try it, select the moon icon next to the language selection menu at the top right.

Why using dark mode?

Some arguments in favour of dark mode are:

  • Some people feel it's more comfortable and easy for the eyes, especially when reading at night.

  • It uses less electricity on devices with so-called OLED screens.

  • The battery of such device will last longer resulting in less expenses if we use dark mode. Money that we can spend on something else.

  • For our planet, it means that we will postpone the Earth Overshoot Day (see the Links section). How much? I don't know! But fact is that humankind can live on this planet the less non-renewable resources we use.

  • Of course, what helps even more is reducing the time we spend with our power consuming devices and spend more of our life time with our friends, family and with nature.

How to use dark mode?

On minuto.org: Just select the moon icon at the top right.

It requires that Javascript - the programming language - is enabled in your browser. Usually, it's the default setting, so you don't need to care about it. If for any reason Javascript is not enabled, a notice will invite you to do it.

If you set dark mode in your browser or operating system, minuto.org will appear in dark mode by default.

About choices

So, on this website you really have a choice:

  • You can use the light or the dark mode.
  • You can switch to dark mode and back.
  • You can set the dark mode in the browser settings.
  • You can set the dark mode in the operating system settings.
  • You can even use a browser plug-in for dark mode.

Choices with Minuto

With Minuto, you have free choice, too:

  • It's a complementary currency that you can use in parallel with the legal tender - or you use the latter only.
  • Once you have two guarantors, you can start issuing your own Minuto vouchers.
  • You can issue Minuto vouchers - or just accept other people's vouchers and pay by them.
  • As an issuer of Minuto vouchers you can design leave the back blank, design it as you like, use an existing template or agree with your group to use a template of your group.
  • You can accept Minuto vouchers - but you don't have to (unless you are the issuer).
  • Buyers and sellers can negotiate the price in Minuto.
  • Also, a combination of Minuto and another means of payment can be agreed.
  • Two people can exchange Minuto to legal tender between each other and the other way round, if they agree.
  • You can copy the concept of Minuto since it is licenced under the Free Art Licence.
  • You can use it as it is - or adapt it to your needs.

All under the condition that the applicable jurisdiction does not prohibit the issuance and use of Minuto vouchers.

In conclusion, I hope you like the dark mode as the latest feature on this website and that more providers of websites and apps are going to offer it.

If you have any suggestions for this website please let me know.

Till next time,
David
